The Nevada Broadcasters Association is pleased to announce that it is reviving its First Response Broadcaster Program. This member-exclusive program provides safety training to television and radio engineers to pass through police and fire lines to access their studios and transmitter facilities during an emergency or natural disaster. This access can be critical for broadcasters to communicate important information from emergency officials to the public.
Working in partnership with the State Division of Emergency Management/Department of Homeland Security and the Nevada Division of Forestry, the NVBA has developed an intensive education and safety training program for engineers so they can obtain a FEMA-approved Nevada Emergency Responder Designation card that can be scanned and verified by first responders in the field during an emergency.
The credentialing process will allow designated personnel, selected by station general managers, to enter areas closed to the public to repair, restore, or resupply tower and transmitting facilities and communicate with the public.
First Response Broadcaster Certification Process
1.
Station Managers
Download and complete the fillable Station Manager Approval Form to indicate the names, titles, and email addresses of the personnel at your stations who will be authorized to complete First Response Broadcaster (FRB) Certification courses to obtain their individual Nevada Emergency Responder Designation card.
Both stations and independent contractors listed on the Station Manager Approval Form must show proof of liability insurance and list all stations for which they are contracted. Stations and independent contractors further agree to hold harmless the Nevada Broadcasters Association and its staff for any damage or injury that may occur.
Submit the Approval Form to frb@nevadabroadcasters.org.
2.
Authorized Personnel
After the Nevada Broadcasters Association has received the Station Manager Approval Form, your FRB site login account will be created. You will receive an email with instructions on creating your account password on frb.nevadabroadcasters.org. You will then be able to log in here to complete courses.
3.
Certification
After completing each course, log into your Certification site account to upload your completion documents. After you have completed all seven (7) courses and NVBA has your documents, NVBA will provide contact information for Nevada’s State Division of Emergency Management/Department of Homeland Security so you can set up your in-person appointment to obtain your Nevada Emergency Responder Designation card.
